Rena Owen

Rena Owen was born on July 22, 1962 in Bay of Islands, North Island, New Zealand to a Maori/Welsh father and a European mother (known as Ngati Hine), she was one of nine children.  She grew up listening and watching Maori dancing and singing and attended the Primary School Club then to Bay of Islands College Maori Culture Group

Owen trained at the Actor's Institute in London starting in 1984 and also with Clean Break (also in London) for two years.  By 1989 Owen returned to New Zealand and continued work in acting, writing and directing until 2000 when she made Los Angeles, CA her work base.

Owen originally had been trained as a nurse (State registered general and obstetric nurse) having studied in Auckland, New Zealand.  She even moved to London to further her career as a medical professional.  By 1984, she realized that acting was it for her and has continued ever since.

During the last 10 years, Rena has extensively toured the International Film Festival circuit to promote various Films, and also to serve on the Jury of the Montreal, Manila, Hawaii, Santa Barbara, and the USA Film Festivals. She has also served as a Consultant for IFP West and the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, and been on the Sundance Selection Panel. When time allows, Rena does Public Speaking, convention appearances, lectures at Universities, and Teaches Drama.
